Review and swatches: MUA Going For Gold Palette

July 28, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

I got this as part of my MUA haul which you can see here. I couldn't pass this up since I am a lover of gold and bronze eye shadows. This is a limited edition MUA palette which has come out for the Olympics. You can get it on the MUA website for £4 (or approximately AU$6). I took these photos of the palette the day I got them, but I am writing this review after a few days of using them.

It comes with 10 shades, and all of them are shimmery or sparkly. Four shades are silvery and six shades are gold/bronze.

I really love this palette, almost all of the colours are really soft and really pigmented. The only two that let the team down (in my opinion) are shade 2 and shade 6 - the colour pay off with these are just ok, whereas the rest of them are amazing. I have only worn these with a cream shadow underneath, and they do tend to stay put all day without losing vibrancy.

There are two neutral shades in this palette (shades 1 and 3) and they are really pretty every day colours. I was happy to see a few nice neutral colours in a gold and silver palette.

Shades 4, 5, 9 and 10 are the more sparkly shades, they have quite prominent chunks of glitter, and remind me of glitter pigments.

The swatches with flash show the real magic of these shadows, I took the photos inside, so if you wore these outside they would be a lot more shimmery than what the swatches show in the without flash photos.

You can see from the swatches that shades 2 and 6 aren't as pigmented as the others. My personal favourites are the shadows that have glitter - specifically the gold (shade 5), the bronze (shade 9), and the dark silver (shade 10). I also love shade 7 as an inner corner highlight.

I think this palette has a good range of colours. I don't personally wear silver eyeshadow so I won't get much use out of them, but I know a lot of people do love silvers. I would have liked to see another bronze or two, since bronze is a very popular colour.

If you like metallic colours, I would highly recommend this palette!
Has anyone tried these? Also remember to follow my blog! Thanks xx

  2. I really like how they've got the actual colours of the shades on the bottom of the palette. I reckon that'd be really helpful.

    1. It would be better if they actually had names, rather than shade 1 etc. But it does make it heaps easier to talk about the shades

  4. This is a cute concept for a palette :) I've always been curious to try MUA palettes, especially their famous Heaven and Earth one. I really like the first shade in this palette, really pretty!
