June empties

July 5, 2012

These are the products that I have finished in June. Not super exciting, but I have gone through and given my overall review and whether or not I will repurchase any of the products.

Redken Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner
I really liked this shampoo and conditioner but I won't repurchase it. I found after using it for a few weeks it started to give me a flaky scalp.  It took me a while to connect the flaky scalp with the shampoo and conditioner, but after having to use Head and Shoulders for a few weeks to clear it up, whenever I came back to this shampoo and conditioner the flakiness kept coming back. It's a shame because these products made my hair really soft and light.

Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Black
I know it's hard to see from the photo, but the top pencil is a Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner. I love this eyeliner, I think its my fourth I have bought. I will definitely repurchase after I use a few black eyeliners that I already have. It's my never fail eyeliner, it's soft and easy to use, it stays in place because it's waterproof (but isn't hard to wash off), and most importantly it has that twist packaging so you don't have to sharpen it.

Prestige Ultimate Brow Definer in BU-02 Toffee
The second pencil in the photo is an eyebrow pencil from Prestige. I haven't yet repurchased this, but when I see it in the shops again, I will probably pick it up. The main things I liked about this pencil was that the colour was quite an ashy brown, which is more like natural eyebrows. I hate eyebrow pencils that are in really warm browns, they look so unnatural. This pencil also had the twist packaging, and at the end of the pencil it had an eyebrow brush that I used often. My only criticism for this pencil is that it gave a very natural looking brow, if you want a more sculpted brow then this pencil won't work. I know that doesn't sound like a bad thing, but sometimes you go out and want a stronger brow. I used this day to day though, which is why I will no doubt repurchase it when I see it again.

Radox Body Polish in Lemongrass and Hydrating Oils
I bought this because I LOVE the smell of lemongrass. I have lemongrass soap, hand soap, and I wish all of my body products smelt like lemongrass. The beauty of lemongrass is that it smells like lemon but is fresher and lighter than lemon scented things. I bought this purely because it was lemongrass, but I didn't like it so much. It smelt more like herbal and nothing like lemon, it wasn't fresh at all. Also the exfoliating beads were pretty useless. I wouldn't repurchase this, I was actually pretty happy to finish it.

Kiehl's Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner
This was my first alcohol-free toner I have ever used. I have used toner for over 10 years, but after I turned 25 I thought I should start being more gentle on my skin. I think I bought this from Myer for $28 so it wasn't cheap, but I was willing to spend a bit of money on a good product. Sadly, I felt like this did nothing. It felt like I was just smearing green water on my face. The green was also a little off putting because when you pour it into a makeup removal cotton pad, it's green, so you can't see all the other muck that comes off your face that makes you feel like its cleaning. I would not repurchase, I wouldn't even repurchase if this was on sale for $5.

Revlon PhotoReady Powder in 020 Light/Medium
This powder was fine, it gave a pretty good coverage and I have no complaints. However, I hated the chunky packaging and the brush! The brush shed little black hairs every single time I used this. I would not repurchase it for that reason alone
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30
I really liked this moisturiser, I like the smell, it's pretty thick without feeling too too greasy, and it has SPF 30. This smell reminds me of China, because I took this motisuriser with me around China for a month, and it was soooo cold and dry that my skin was hating me, this moisturiser helped my skin survive the trip. I will repurchase, I haven't straight away because I have used it for about 6 months and need a break. That's another good thing about this, one bottle lasted me over 6 months of using it every morning. My only criticisms were that if you get in it your eyes it stings a little (because of the sunscreen), also when it was nearly finished, it was really hard to get the last of the product out.

Rossan's Antiseptic Ear-Care
Before this bottle finished, I had already bought a replacement. I keep it in my bathroom in case I put out my nose ring at night and it starts getting a little angry. I love this product, I just get it from Chemist Warehouse and its only a few dollars. It lasts a long time (I generally get a years use out of a bottle) and it's a really gentle antiseptic. You can get this is a spray form, but I like the one without the spray container, because I just like to put a few drops on a cotton bud to clean my nose. It works with any external piercing, and it's a must have in my bathroom. Highly recommend.

  1. I've tried the Redken Extreme Shampoo myself, but never had any problems with flakiness. Then again, I was following it with the Redken All Soft Heavy Creme, rather than the Extreme conditioner. So maybe the Extreme line only works well if you use it in combination with something else.

Oh and I can never see the point of the supposed 'exfoliating beads' they put in shower gels. They never seem to do anything. I'm a firm believer in exfoliating gloves and a standard gel over exfoliating scrubs. At least, for the body anyway.

    1. I can't agree more! exfoliating beads are such a waste of space with normal shower gels!
