Alpha-H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid review

July 8, 2012

Alpha-H Liquid Gold is raved about all over the internet. I had just run out of my serum so I thought I would take the plunge and buy it. I bought it from Beauty Bay where it is sold for $41.70 with free shipping.

You can also buy Alpha-H products from Luxola.com

I apply this usually every second night, and I pour a little amount on a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face. The directions say to use this followed by a moisturiser or serum, or if you want a intensive treatment not to use any serum or moisturiser. Warning, this tingles a little or may even sting if you have blemishes. I don't mind the tingling, it makes me think that it's having some effect on my skin.

The packaging is ok, it's not a pump container, you just take off the lid and pour some out. Without the black cap, the bottle looks a little inexpensive, and the black cap serves no other function than to make it look nicer. I can imagine in the future getting sick of the cap and throwing it out.

The reason why I am a little disappointed with this product is because I had the impression that it would also be anti-aging and repairing, instead of only being smoothing. I don't have wrinkles yet, but I like knowing that the treatments I use (and spend quite a bit of money on) help prevent future wrinkles and help with any sun damage done to my skin. From the hype, I thought this would be my new favourite all round treatment, but if it only makes your skin smoother then I don't feel like it will have any long term benefits to my skin. This is really just a chemical exfoliant, and I guess that wasn't really made clear to me when I was reading reviews... I guess I fell for the hype.

After some research, I have come to realise that to get the added repairing that I wanted from this product, I will also need to buy the Alpha-H Liquid Gold Intensive Night Repair Serum which wasn't in stock when I ordered my Alpha-H Liquid Gold. If I had known that for a total treatment I needed to buy the Liquid Gold for $41.70 and the Alpha-H Liquid Gold Intensive Night Repair Serum for $64.90, I probably would have looked at other products instead. I might invest in the Repair Serum as well since I have come this far, but I don't know if I will repurchase this knowing that I will need to spend over $100 (on the cheapest site I can find) to get a firming AND restoring treatment.

It's a great product, and does what it claims to do perfectly and almost instantly, just be aware that if you want a total treatment, you need additional products.

  1. Man! That sucks. I had this same experience with Proactive. I was using the wash on my body, but couldn't see any results. That's when I discovered that it needed to be used in conjunction with the other products from that line. Nope! Screw that! I'm not forking over heaps of money on products that rely on eachother. If they're worth spending a crazy amount on in the first place, they should be good enough to use on their own.

    1. Don't get me wrong, its a great product and it does work. It just doesn't do it all, and I guess I had high hopes. I still like using it, it just sucks that I now have to get another product too

  3. :D Yes! Hello! I used Alpha H a few years ago for acne and it pretty much worked until my skin started to burn. That was after about 4 weeks or continuous use. To be fair, I do have very sensitive skin.

  4. I read that liquid gold does have an anti-ageing effect. Glycolic acid, which is in liquid gold, increases cell turnover which helps to prevent wrinkles and fine lines. The main thing is that it can increase collagen production, which again helps delay wrinkles. I read about it here: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/anti-aging-superstars-a-list-healthy-young-looking-skin.aspx.

I considered buying the serum too, and probably will at some point but I can't afford it at the moment. However, using this product I feel that I am making my skin brighter and healthier whilst also preventing premature ageing.
