May Favourites

June 5, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

May favourites time! It's my birthday in May, so I thought I'd include a photo of one of my besties and myself on my birthday. This is my first favourites blog, but I thought I would start with beauty favourites and then will talk about my makeup favourites. I have noticed that my favourites for May seem to have a very pink theme hmmm...

Beauty Favourites:

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil in Fresh
I bought this from StrawberryNet about 3 weeks ago when they were having a sale on skin care. It ended up being around $78 for 450ml. Jumped on it because I know that in Australia it can retail for around $110. Anyway, I love this stuff, I use it at night to wash off my makeup and it is amazing! It does not leave an oily residue, and it's very easy to wash off, when it mixes with water it emulsifies and washes off easily. This is designed to be used as a cleanser, but I do still cleanse afterwards. I chose the Fresh version because it's designed for people with oily/acne prone skin. So far it hasn't caused any oiliness or spots, and if anything it is making my skin feel smoother and my pores may be getting smaller.

Sebastian Penetraitt - Shampoo, Conditioner and Conditioning Masque
Once again, I bought these from http://au.strawberrynet.com/haircare/sebastian/ because I don't think it's are available in stores in Australia. I was using Redken and I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I think it was giving me slight dandruff... I have also recently noticed that my housemate has swapped from Redken to Head and Shoulders.
I did some research into shampoos and conditioners recommended for damaged hair, and the Penetraitt range from Sebastian came up with really good reviews. This shampoo and conditioner makes my hair sooooo smooth, which says a lot because with my damaged hair, it's hard to get my hair smooth. I use the masque maybe once a week, and I love it. I will repurchase this for sure, but I have noticed that it is cheaper on http://www.beautybay.com/haircare/sebastian/ so I will get it there in the future. Highly recommend if you have dry damaged hair and want smooth shiny hair instead!
My only complaint about this product is that the packaging is rubbish! It is so hard to squeeze the shampoo and conditioner out because the plastic is so tough. I think this will be a nightmare when it's nearly empty! The squeezy conditioning masque tube is fine, they should all come in that packaging.

Makeup Favourites:

Stila Custom Color Blush in Self-Adjusting Pink
I have been big into pink cheeks recently, I think its because it's getting colder and I have been becoming more pale. Normally I fight the pale and end up using bronzers and fake tan, but this year I am embracing the pale. I think pink blush looks great on pale skin, and it has only been this year when I started buying blush in pink, before that was corals or oranges.
I don't know if this blush self-adjusts to your skin tone like it claims, but I don't care. It's really pretty, and it is honestly the only blush I have ever had compliments on. I saw my friend (in the photo at the top) the other day for breakfast and she emailed me the following day asking me what blush I was wearing because "it was amazing".
This blush is super pigmented, so start with a little, it is also very build-able. You can get this blush from http://www.beautybay.com/cosmetics/stila/g/customcolorblush/

Korres Blush in 16 Pink
I don't love this as much as the Stila one, but sometimes the Stila blush is too much, especially if I am wearing a stronger eye or bright lip. In those cases, I tend to use this blush. It is a very soft pink that gives a really natural colour. This is a more day to day blush, whereas the Stila blush is more of a HEY EVERYONE, LOOK AT MY BLUSH!
This blush is not too pigmented, it does take a while to build up a lot of colour.

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow Liner in Sippin'N Dippin'
I got this on sale at StrawberryNet Benefit. It was (and still is) on sale for $13. I mainly use this as a base for other eyeshadows, or I will wear it around the house or to the shops with a bit of mascara when I am going for a "no makeup" look. It's a great basic to have, and is supposed to be a great (and cheap) dupe for MAC's Rubenesque paint pot.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in 53 and Healthy Mix Concealer in 52
I decided to include these because I use them most days, together they cover well, apply smoothly, smell great and they doesn't leave me oily at the end of the day. While wearing this foundation I don't feel the urge to powder during the day to cover oily spots. The coverage is light to medium so I do need to also use the concealer in certain sports. It smells like fruity peach, but the smell isn't too strong and goes away once it has set. It's a staple of mine, and I will repurchase this many times over. Highly recommend if you have combination to oily skin like I do.

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long Lasting Lipstick in 70 Coral Fantasy
My boyfriend bought me this lipstick and I love it. It smells great, it lasts a long time, it's really smooth to put on, it's not drying at all and the colour is amazing! I love coral lipsticks, coral is my version of pink, since I can't stand the look of pink lipstick on me. I don't know what my aversion to pink lipstick is, but the only pink I have managed to like on me is the Barry M lipstick in 52 Shocking Pink (which is what I am wearing in my profile picture). I find that oranges and reds suit me more than pinks, so coral is a great because it's a more orange version of pink. Remind me to do a blog post of all my orange lipsticks that I own.

Mimco Mini Anarchy Wallet in Black and Rose Gold
I was looking at this wallet for a while but couldn't justify the $169 full price, but last week it went down to $69 so I called around to see what stores had it in stock and bought one immediately. I had $30 Mimco birthday credit so I ended up getting it for $39. The wallet is still on sale, here is the link Mimco Mini Anarchy Wallet

Game of Thrones Season 2
I just finished watching the final episode of Game of Thrones season 2 last night. IT WAS AWESOME. I have read the books so I knew what was going to happen, but WOW! Go watch it if you haven't already!

America's Next Top Model Cycle 18
Also so happy to see that Sophie the British model won cycle 18! She was so much better than the American girl that was also in the final, and it just makes me super happy that a Brit won!

Also a special shout out to my cat, who has been very active in the photographing of these products.

  1. Such a detailed little favourites post. Loved reading it.

The Stila blush definitely sounds like a winner. Any blush that causes people to go out of their way to comment on it is alright in my book!

I'm currently using the Bourjois Healthy Mix (not the serum though, the other one) and really loving it also. I have normal to dry skin though. Is the serum better for people with oily skin such as yourself?! I'm eyeing off the Estee Lauder Double Wear when I run out of the Bourjois, because I want more coverage. However I think I might combine it with the Healthy Mix to amp up the radiance. Plus I love the smell!

Oh and your cat is a sweetie!

    xx.

    1. I have the normal healthy mix too, I think they are both the same for oily skin, the serum does have a little less coverage. I just tend to use it more because I bought it first and I'm used to it. I got them in different colours and the serum colour matches my skin more.

I find it hard to jump into really expensive foundations, only because I am worried I will get something that makes me oily. MAC is supposedly notorious for that. If I hate a cheaper foundation, I'm fine with throwing it out. I should grow up and get a good one soon. xx

    2. Yeah I've heard that about MAC foundations. It's kind of put me off giving them a try. That, and the hideous price. Although Estee Lauder is fairly expensive too, here in Aus. I'm hoping Myer will have a little 'goodie bag with purchase' on the horizon!

I reckon you should head to a high-end makeup counter (one you're interested in of course!) and get yourself matched to a foundation and take home a sample to try. That way you'll be able to avoid the dreaded wastage if you don't like it. I was nearly about to splurge on the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (purely based on rave reviews) until I roadtested a week's worth of it and decided it wasn't for me.

    3. I'm surprised that you didn't like the Chanel one. I haven't tried it, but the hype is crazy! I have a friend who works at Estee Lauder I might get her to match me and give me samples :) Thanks for the advice
