Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation review

June 1, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

Ok, so I paid Priceline a visit earlier this week because I knew they were having a buy any two products and receive a third item free deal. This deal was on with most of the main brands - Rimmel, Revlon, L'Oreal, Maybelline, Bourjois, and Cover Girl - so I thought I may as well give in to the hype and buy a couple of Wake Me Up foundations (which retail for $19.95 in Australia).

When I got to the stand I was thrilled to see that each foundation came with a free Stay Matte powder. So I ended up buying two foundations (one in 103 True Ivory, and the other in 200 Soft Beige), two free powders and a free third purchase, which I chose to be the Volume Flash Scandaleyes Mascara in 003 Extreme Black (which I am yet to try).

So I have been wearing these foundations all week and I am happy with them. Both colours are very similar; the true ivory seems to be slightly more pink than the beige, but with my skin tone at the moment I can wear both.

The product:
I get the hype: it is good. They are creamy, have good coverage, is build-able which is good because the normal coverage doesn't completely cover break outs. The foundation does give a nice glow to the skin, and smells nice (not as nice as the Bourjois healthy mix, which is what I have been using before trying this). However I have combination to oily skin, and I have a feeling that the people who rave about this must have normal to dry skin, because I did find that after a couple of hours I started feeling quite greasy. I don't think this looked too bad, and may have given what people call a "dewy appearance", but it made me really uncomfortable (being an oily skinned person), and I found that I reached for the power more often than I have been recently.

The colour match is great for me, the shades are not too pink or too yellow, they are a nice middle beige. There is a very limited colour range with Wake Me Up foundations though, with only six different shades. It won't be suitable for people with very light skin or people with dark skin tones. Hopefully Rimmel will see the popularity of this product and remedy that quickly.

Overall I am happy with this foundation, it stays on all day, and even though it is slightly oilier that what I am comfortable with, it hasn't made me break out... yet.  I would repurchase, I might just have to get used to the "dewy" feel.

Packaging:
The packaging is great. The colour of the lid makes it noticeable and easy to spot in cluttered makeup draws. It has a pump applicator, and with one pump I get enough foundation to cover my whole face. If I am having a bad skin day, I may have to use a little more on certain areas. The bottle is glass, which makes it feel more expensive, but it runs the risk of smashing if dropped, and also makes makeup bags heavy. Overall, I am love the packaging.

Here are some colour swatches: The True Ivory is on the left, and Soft Beige is on the right

Also for all you people who have heard that there is glitter in this product. It does have a slight shimmer to it, which you can often see by looking at the bottom of the bottle where it settles.
This isn't an issue with me, it's not noticeable normally, however in the right sun light you can see it more clearly. See photo below where I blended out the swatches
